On a November evening in 1998 my very first poster for Mark Lanegan debuted. This was created for a show at the Showbox in Seattle. Here's a look at the original sketches, the final black and white art, the printed poster in purple, pink and black. I also included a version that I played around with in the color scheme of a Heineken neon sign(never printed). I came up with the concept of this while out drinking one night and when looking at one of the neon signs behind the bar I noticed how easy it would be to make it read "Lanegan" instead. My original sketch was my own reflection in a glass of beer, I kept drawing and created my rendition of the bartender. I later added more characters in the foreground, giving it a "Barfly" vibe. It really captured the vibe in Seattle in the 90's when Seattle had a more gritty feel to it.
This was a great show. Mike Johnson opened and played guitar for Mark. Ben Shepard played bass and Marc Olsen joined on second guitar along with Dave Krueger on violin and Mark Boquist on drums. I was able to get a copy signed by everyone that night. I'd seen Mark perform live with the Screaming Trees a ton of times but that was the first time that I saw him perform solo and the first time I met him in person. What an incredible night.
I'm offering up a handful of copies from my archives to anyone who might be in search of one. One per person please.
