As some of you may know, I was one of the original artists of the global gaming phenomenon, Magic The Gathering back in the mid 1990's. In fact, I still get invited to Magic conventions all over the world and get asked to sign those old cards regularly since then. In late 2025 I was asked to attend a convention in Amsterdam for a Magic group called Knight of Thorns. It conflicted with the appearance that I had around the same time in Italy so instead of an appearance, they commissioned me to create a new painting for a playmat for the event. They wanted something with the "Knight of Thorns" theme and to have an old school vibe. They wanted some of my old design flavors in there as well so I created an image that mixes my cards from the 1994 sets of Antiquities and Legends with "Reverse Polarity", "Rapid Fire", and "Juxtapose", combined with imagery of Christopher Rush's "Knight of Thorns". Here's a look at the result. This is only my second playmat that I've ever created. They are signed and numbered in an edition of only 25 made. Grab one while they last!
